Numerical calculations using a full 2D micro-magnetic model of stripe domains have been done in order to get a clear insight into the magnetization distribution within spring-magnet-type [Co/Fe] multilayers. The results of calculations are compared quantitatively with the very detailed experimental data available in the literature on such a system. Compared to a single film, the main differences appearing on the magnetization profiles, domain period and field effects are fully described. Finally, the physical origin of the perpendicular anisotropy observed in such stacks is discussed. Two possible contributions are investigated, namely the magneto-elastic anisotropy and the effect of roughness. |
