SiiCle is shown to be a catalyst for the cyclo-trimerization of both terminal and non-temiinal alkynes between 160-200 °C, e.g., cyclo-trimerization of PhC*CPh gave CePhg in 60% yield. The reaction involves formation of SiCU radicals. Si2(OMe)6 also catalyzes the cyclotrimerization of alkynes, but with lower conversions (yields). This represents the second example of such reactions facilitated by a non-metallic catalyst, as well as the first example proceeding by a radical pathway. 1.
