Modification of the solochrome violet RS method for the cathodic stripping voltammetric determination of aluminium

Popis: A modification of the method for the determination of aluminium by cathodic stripping voltammetry of its Solochrome Violet RS (SVRS) complex is reported. A rapid reaction occurs between aluminium(III) and SVRS at room temperature at pH 8.8. This eliminates the heating and cooling step required for reaction at pH 4.5; the analysis time is considerably shortened as complex formation occurs during the solution degassing step. The reaction does not go to completion and is stopped after 10 min by lowering the pH to 4.6. For 1 × 10−6 M SVRS the detection limit was 4.5 × 10−9 M Al and the relative standard deviation at 2 × 10−8 M Al was 5% (n = 8).
