This chapter explains how screening all clients for emotional disorders and LGBTQ-related stress experiences can inform an initial case formulation. It cites the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI), which is used to screen clients for emotional disorders, such as DSM-5 disorders. The information derived from MINI allows therapists to determine differential diagnoses and gain a clear understanding of the nature and severity of each diagnosis. The chapter describes several standardized self-report inventories of emotional disorders and cross-cutting symptoms that can provide useful information for case formulation at baseline. It recommends the Beck Depression Inventory-II and the Beck Anxiety Inventory as general measures of depressive and anxious symptoms. |
