Popis: The third focus in this approach to the ‘objective reality’ of mass communications is that which is most directly concerned with the role-performance of those engaged in the production of mass communications. The key term throughout the second part of the monograph has been constraints, the ways in which ideological, social and organisational structures interrelate to provide a world of ‘facts’ that seem to prejudge what constitutes appropriate behaviour for communicators. In this chapter a framework for the analysis of the production process is presented. This is preceded by a discussion of factors which have conventionally been linked to studies of media production, for example, professionalisation, analogies with craft industries and creativity.
