In the era of globalization, the ecological situation on our planet is undergoing catastrophic changes, which are brought about by such factors as an increase in the population’s needs for services and goods, overconsumption, vigorous production activity, and irrational use of natural resources. A crucial role in education, in connection with the current environmental situation, must be assigned to environmental education, as well as to its forms and methods. The purpose of this study is to substantiate and integrate the ideas of sustainable development in a foreign language teaching. The material presents the idea of global environmental education, including the unity of goal-setting, content, process and technological components. The ambitious outcome of such a foreign language education should be an environmentally and linguistically competent person, that is developed via the course of simulation games, workshops, creative activity of designing a “smart home”, a “green city”, and publishing the brochures with environmentally friendly rules. This competence will allow students to respond to environmental challenges by offering solutions for the local community, as well as presenting the ideas at international events during academic mobility programs. |
