Popis: Many contributions to biomedical ultrasound pioneered at the University of Rochester may be traced either directly or indirectly to Ed Carstensen. Armed with strong scientific background in physics, tremendous ability to get along with people and great insight into what was needed to accomplish scientific goals, he was able to help attract great faculty to the University of Rochester across many disciplines, all with interests in ultrasound, to add to the great talent pool already there. Eventually, he formalized the expertise in the Rochester ultrasound community by founding the Rochester Center for Biomedical Ultrasound. This paper provides examples of how Professor Carstensen was able to teach, inspire and lead individuals to seek answers to important questions in the biomedical sciences. His easygoing manner did not detract from his rigorous scientific standards. His ability to facilitate collaboration among physicians, bioscientists and engineers contributed greatly to the phenomenal growth of biomed...
