Popis: | Summary SV40 was inoculated into newborn hamsters and, 7 days later, some of the animals were thymectomized. On day 21 all hamsters received 350 r total body irradiation. Prior to the development of SV40-induced tumors, the thymectomized and non-thymectomized sets were subdivided further into two groups; one subgroup of each set was injected with SV40-transformed human cells; the other subgroup remained as controls. All animals were observed for development of SV40-induced tumors. The transformed cells induced tumor resistance only in the non-thymectomized host, thus indicating dependence on an intact lymphoid system for expression of tumor immunity, and showing that the cells most likely acted through their ability to stimulate a homograft rejection response. |
