Popis: | The efficiency of a 11.3 mm thick microchannel plate detector for detecting gamma rays from positron annihilation (511 keV) has been measured as 3.6%. The time resolution was less than 1 ns. Model calculations indicate that a more optimum hole geometry and a higher lead content in the glass matrix could provide an efficiency up to 9% for a 10 mm thick detector. Such detectors, fabricated in large sizes with X − Y readouts, have potential applications such as positron imaging. |
