Some Transport Properties of Conduction Electrons in n-Type CdS

Popis: The Hall mobility, the Seebeck and the Nernst coefficient have been measured in the temperature range from about 100°K to 350°K to obtain information about the scattering mechanisms of the conduction electrons in n -type CdS. The tensor components of the transverse Nernst coefficient are derived according to Herring's method to interpret the experimental results. The temperature dependences of the Hall mobility and the Seebeck coefficient are almost the same with those reported by many authors, except the saturation tendency observed in the phonon drag part of the Seebeck coefficient. Positive phonon drag contribution is found in the transverse Nernst coefficient, contrary to the expectation from the piezoelectric scattering theory of the conduction electrons. This inconsistency is attributed to the screening effect by the conduction electrons rather than to the existence of additional scattering mechanisms due e.g. , to the deformation potential.
