Popis: | We have derived a set of equations that describe the spectral hole burning that arises in a saturating laser pulse as it propagates through a resonantly absorbing atomic vapour. The analysis has been compared with earlier experimental measurements of laser energy attenuation and found to be in excellent agreement provided little excitation or ionization occurs. |
