As the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to ravage the world, innovative measures to stop its spread and to provide high-quality patient care have become imperative. We present here a real-world case study on Taiwan, which has successfully prevented the spread of COVID-19 without ever needing to lockdown, thanks to innovative digital health technologies and the lessons learned from combatting SARS in 2003. We will discuss how Taiwan recognized the crisis on Dec. 30, 2019, and how Taiwanese government and people have worked together to have kept the COVID-19 death rate to be less than 0.3 per million, ranked 192th lowest among 215 countries in the world. |
