Popis: This paper presents a new technology for freespace injection of simulated targets into operating radar antennas. The method allows normal operation of the radar in a chamber or in the field, simultaneously with target injection. A transparent phased array (an intelligent radome, or "iDome") with size similar to the radar antenna is placed in close proximity to the radar antenna aperture. The iDome array is connected to a radar repeater that supplies the target return range, Doppler, and waveform to the radar receiver. The iDome array also simulates the cross-range trajectory of the target. Surrounding real-world clutter will still be seen by the radar with no significant effect from the iDome array. Multiple targets with independent trajectories can be generated. Planar and non-planar versions of iDome can accommodate radar antenna and geometries that require separation of the radar and iDome. This paper discusses applications, MATLAB modeling, and simulations that demonstrate viability of the new concept.
