Popis: | In the continuous casting of steel, the clogging of gate valves that control the flow of liquid steel from tundish to caster is a serious problem. A mineralogical study was made of affected gate material (alumina and zirconia) that had been in service and supporting laboratory experiments were carried out. An electron microprobe was used to examine the mineralogy of the reaction interface between a slag layer and the material of a three plate gating system where both corrosion and accretion had occurred. It was concluded that basic slags originating in the tundish dissolved alumina from the top plate of the system and becoming more refractory formed accretions on moving to the cooler bottom plate. These accretions contained the minerals gehlenite, spinel and mullite. The middle plate, zirconia, was relatively unaffected.Lors de la coulee continue de l’acier, l’obstruction des vannes d’arret, qui controlent l’ecoulement de l’acier liquide du panier de coulee vers l’appareil de coulage, est un probl... |
