Popis: Recurrence rate following laparoscopic repair of incisional or ventral hernia varies in the published literature between 1.1% and 10.7% (1–8). In part of the publications, the median follow-up is not mentioned or is very short. In the others (1,4,7,8), a median follow-up period that varies between 23 and 30 months is mentioned. Also in these series, the recurrence risk varies between 1.1% and 10.7% (4). In the study of Park et al., the median follow-up period was 24 months, and the recurrences occurred only up to 12 months post operatively. For these reasons, it is still not clear whether an increased follow-up period will increase the recurrence rate significantly. Park et al. in evaluation of their recurrent cases were able to demonstrate that some factors can contribute significantly to the recurrence. Those factors are as follows: lateral defect, use of polypropylene mesh, occurrence of perioperative complications and presence of larger hernia (> 50 cm2). A nonsignificant trend toward an increased recurrence rate in patients who had undergone a previous non-laparoscopic repair was demonstrated.
