Popis: Sustained social connection with diverse individuals may require individuals to be better at dealing with negative interactions that may occur within diverse communities. Emotion regulation, the ability to modulate or control one’s emotion or set of emotions, may be important to fostering diverse connections at the individual level in heterogeneous groups. If individuals are better able to manage conflict and regulate negative affective states, through emotion regulation, then they may be able to mitigate negative associations to different others following intragroup conflict or overcome the tendency to seek out homophilic connections that emerge in diverse communities. This study will examine this relationship by asking whether difficulty with emotion regulation, and one's tendency to utilize different emotion regulation strategies influences the diversity of their social networks within an organizational group.
