In disagreement with recent suggestions that the principal first-forbidden non-unique beta transition requires a shape factor for its complete description, it has been found that this transition displays the statistical shape. The coefficients of the shape factors suggested earlier are shown to be so extremely sensitive to the choice of end-point energy as to make their utility doubtful. The conversion coefficients of the 412 keV transition have been determined at high precision and found to be in complete agreement with the theoretical E2 values. The results of observations of the decay of Au 199 needed in the present method of analysis are included in an appendix. |
