The increase of the drug therapy rationality in an elderly patient of the therapeutic profile

Popis: | Taking into account the tendency to aging population around the world, as well as the frequency of occurrence, polymorbidity and peculiarities of the course of the concomitant pathology in elderly the increase of the rationality of pharmacotherapy in this group of patients has a significant medical and social value. Aim. To increase the rational use of drugs in the elderly and old age. Materials and methods. 105 Inpatient medical histories of patients aged over 65 years old were analyzed for the purpose of conformity of drug prescribing with the international recommendations of the American Geriatric Association of 2015. These recommendations included the correlation of a particular drug to the category of drugs that are not recommended for use in the elderly or the category of drugs which use should be avoided in certain diseases and syndromes, or potentially dangerous. Results. In 73 % of cases there were prescriptions of drugs included in the list of those that were not recommended in elderly patients with different strength of evidence and contraindications. In addition, in 34.4 % of observations, the inappropriateness of the prescription of individual drugs was identified, and in 57.1 % there was incorrect dosing according to the standardized Medication Appropriateness Index. A high level of polypragmasy was revealed. Conclusions. Conclusions are made concerning the ways of improving the rationality of drug therapy of elderly patients. |
