Analysis of microwave signal propagation over the horizon has been difficult and tedious. The Bullington tropospheric reflection model is shown to have reasonable physical inputs and attractive, compact results. This paper extends these results to include foreground reflections and the benefits of diversity. The extensions do not appear to be explicitly available from other models. The model is translated to FORTRAN programs that predict signal strength versus distance and data rate versus distance. Running time and convenience are notably better than for other models. Examples are provided, and a striking comparison with narrow beam tropo data is shown. |
