Popis: | The selectivity of fully activated basic alumina for the separation of polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs) and tetrachlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (TCDDs) has been evaluated and shown to give complete separation of each class when a 12% chloroform/hexane eluting solvent is used. Further isolation of 2,3,7,8-TCDD from the other TCDD isomers can be made with either 15% methylene chloride, 40% chloroform, or 100% n-butyl chloride depending upon the interferences and selectivity required. The tenacious adsorption of the 2,3,7,8-TCDD isomer can be explained by a variety of factors including its planarity and linearity and the relative positions of the chlorines to each other and to the oxygen linkages of the TCDD molecule. |
