Publisher Summary In this chapter, an approach based on the boundary element method for the computation of the material properties sensitivity of elastic fields is presented. Two-dimensional rectilinearly anisotropic bodies are considered in the chapter. The sensitivity boundary integral equation has been obtained, and an approach based on standard boundary element techniques is proposed in the chapter for its numerical solution. It is shown that the new kernels that arise in the sensitivity boundary integral equation (BIE) are at most as singular as the standard kernels or regular. The accuracy of this numerical approach is contrasted to solutions obtained analytically by the complex potential theory. The deduction of the elastic properties of a non-isotropic elastic solid, from its response in a laboratory or in situ test, is an important problem within the field of nondestructive evaluation (NDE). |
