Effect of the linear transfer of radiation energy on the radiolysis and chemical stability of polycarbonate

Popis: A study has been made of degradation processes, of the kinetics of formation of stabilized radicals, and their thermal decay, along with an investigation of features of the chemical etching of polycarbonate (PC) exposed to types of radiation differeing in respect to linear energy transfer (LET). It is shown that the radiation stability of the PC rises with increasing linear transfer of radiation energy, since the radiation yields of degradation and of stabilized radicals are reduced. However, the chemical stability of PC in corrosive media is greatly reduced as the linear transfer of radiation energy increases.
