Popis: | Two mother-child dyads were recorded on a number of occasions both before and after a clinician's suggestion that a slowed maternal speech rate might ameliorate their children's stuttering. Examination of maternal articulatory rate and child fluency indicated that mothers slowed their rates, maintained slower rates, and that the children's stuttering rates decreased during the time of the study. However, because the children's articulatory rates actually increased during posttraining observation sessions, we reject accounts of conversational synchrony to explain why slowed maternal rate might aid children's fluency and offer alternative explanations. |
