Popis: | The dependence of solute activity coefficients on composition in systems, MCl(component 1) + acetone(component 2) + water, has been investigated over a wider range of solute molalities than any salt + non-electrolyte system previously studied. The salt, MCl, was either sodium chloride or potassium chloride. A new method was used, involving cells without liquid junction, for the direct evaluation of the partial derivative, ( ∂ ln γ 1 ∂m 2 ) m 1 . The converse quantity, ( ∂ ln γ 2 ∂m 1 ) m 1 , obtained from the cross-differentiation equation, was expressed as a function of the solute molalities in the form: a + bm 1 1 2 + cm 1 + dm 2 . A comparison of these results with data in the literature suggests a possible discrepancy in previous evaluations of the limiting interaction parameter a. |
