We enconutered a successfully by repaired case of congenital esophagobronchial fistula with an esophageal diverticulum. A 61-year-old female underwent upper gastrointestinal series for close examination of an abdominal pain. This examination revealed an esophagobronchial fistula with esophageal diverticulum. The removal of fistulous tract was carried out. The diverticulum existed at the middle intra-thoracic esophagus and it communicated to the right lower lobe of the bronchus. Histological findings of the resected fistula included: 1) that there was a smooth connection between squamous epithelium and columnar epithelium; 2) that the muscularis mucosa was maintained with no evidence of inflammatory changes; and 3) that immature alveolar was confirmed in the vicinity of the fistula. This case was diagnosed with congenital esophagobronchial fistula. In Japan 44 cases of congenital esophagobronchial fistula with esophageal diverticulum have been reported. It is assumed that three histological findings as mentioned above are important for making the diagnosis of congenital esophagobronchial fistula. |
