Popis: | In 1663, several booklets of similar content were published in Granada, in the form of poems that recreate a penitential discourse by a lyrical ‘I’, normally dying, in the presence of Christ. This poetic arrangement has a precedent in Avisos para la muerte (Madrid, 1634), a successful collection that apparently originated in an academia or similar context in the Court. It is not rare to find analogous individual poems in miscellaneous manuscripts, in single-authored books of poems, and in booklets from different places and years during the 17th and 18th centuries. Similarities of place, time, and publishing preferences in these booklets from Granada, however, suggest a possible collective initiative. This fact may be considered in connection with the simultaneous publication of transcriptions of occasional academias from Granada; nevertheless, in this case, the publishing option chosen is more ambiguous, given the standardization of the booklet as a means of transmission of learned poetry.
