Ecological matters become more and more important in the context of new product (including service) development. In order to give methodical support to innovation teams in this regard, the chapter introduces the so-called “Design-to-Sustainability Matrix” which encompasses 40 sustainable principles for new product design and product re-engineering. The matrix provides a framework to tackle ecological issues from two sides; the product lifecycle phases as one perspective and the fields of environmental issues as the other. The 40 sustainability principles assigned to the matrix are intended to serve as substantial impulses for a creative ideation process to come up with effective solutions to holistically improve a product’s ecological footprint. |
