The membership of the BPA and now college has always encompassed all parts of the United Kingdom as well as many paediatricians from the Republic of Ireland. Each country has had its own local mechanism of bringing paediatricians together as have many parts of England. The devolution of political powers to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland included health as one of the areas which was locally managed. This has led to increasing diversity in the way that paediatrics is delivered, and a four-nation approach has to be included in all that the college has done. Here we have reflections from the three devolved nations and Eire on the importance of the college. |
