Popis: Three types of open-close-clench cycle experiment (30, 60 and 90 strokes/min.) were conducted on five men with natural dentitions, in order to examine the relationship between the mandibular movement and the muscular discharge activities at the opening muscle and the closing muscle of mandible. We used the surface electrodes for the electromyography and sirognathograph for mandibular movement. The data were processed with a multi-purpose monitoring/recording device and a computer. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained:1. Regarding the time lag between the offset of muscular discharge of the openig muscle and the onset of muscular discharge of the closing muscle, the time lag between the offset of muscular discharge of the closing muscle and the onset of muscular discharge of the opening muscle, we observed that these time lags tended to decrease at both the masseter muscle and the temporal muscle in proportion to the increase in the frequency of the open-close-clench cycles.2. Time lag data between the onset of muscular discharge of the opening muscle and the onset of mandibular movement tended to converge around 100 ms in proportion to the increase in the frequency of the open-close-clench cycles.3. Time lag data between the onset of muscular discharge of the closing muscle and the offset of mandibular movement was not affected seriously by the frequency of the open-closeclench cycles.
