Popis: A fast time-response detector for absolute neutron flux measurements was designed. The detector consists of a medium size liquid scintillator tank with an entrance channel for a collimated neutron beam. The primary neutron energy is transformed by successive collisions into proton and carbon recoils resulting in a light flash which is detected by photo-multipliers at the surface of the scintillator volume. A favorable pulse height distribution is obtained with such additive device. The parametric dependence of the detection efficiency was studied using the Monte Carlo technique. A detector with a favorable set of parameters was built and checked experimentally. The evaluations and tests show this “Black Neutron Detector” to be a good instrument for precise absolute neutron flux measurements in the MeV energy region.
