Popis:	A convenient synthetic method is described for 3-substituted aromatic trifluoromethyl ethers through an oxidative desulfurization–fluorination reaction. Upon addition to liquid crystalline materials, these ethers lower birefringence (Δ n ) of the host liquid crystals.
