Popis:	After briefly summarizing the information available on sheep scrapie, the authors explain the value of using the sheep in the study of ‘slow virus’ diseases, since it is particularly prone to diseases of this type. It may be affected not only by scrapie but also by other similar diseases such as visna, maedi and jaagsiekte. These disorders may therefore be used as models to which the most recent pathogenic concepts can be applied. A study of them will lead to a better understanding of the virus-host relationship in the pathology of infection.
