Popis: We all live in a digital-driven world where some communities and countries are provided with high quality broadband connectivity, while others are deprived. Most people faced digital discrepancies due to a lack of funding and physical access to resources. Underserved and underrepresented populations are not provided with equal opportunities for healthcare, education, social enrichment, and employment due to digital divides. Researcher van Deursen and van Dijk (found that even though some of these communities are provided with broadband connectivity, access is restricted, and connections are unreliable. Even academic institutions, public libraries, and other public entities are not left out of the digital split. Older adults still lag behind younger generations but mostly due to their preferability and academic and financial stance. It will take a collective effort to bridge the digital gaps, as potential solutions are addressed. Also, for theoretical support, van Dijk resources and appropriation theory (RAT) is applied to aid in understanding the digital divide phenomenon. Although there is no distinctive header, this is the abstract.
