Popis: | In recent years satellite altimetry measurements have been used to produce global maps of the marine gravity field, providing important new information in the study of the geology and geophysics of the deep oceans and continental margins. Processing the vast amount of satellite data available (several gigabytes in many cases) requires powerful computers with a large data storage capacity, together with a great deal of computer programming and system support effort. Computer systems capable of processing large volumes of seismic reflection data have been in existence for many years. This paper describes the novel application of existing seismic processing technology to manipulate and process the satellite data to yield a global marine gravity data set. |
