Popis: | Since a few years the Internet is going mobile. Applications that traditionally were targeted for the desktop or later the Web nowadays become increaslingly available on mobile plattforms. This is also true for GIS and geo-enabled applications. On the other hand, positioning technologies became ubiquitous in smartphones reaching finally the mass-market. Those mobile applications that make use of the current position of the mobile device (and thus the user) can be considered as Location-Based Services (LBS). This chapter gives an introduction to the LBS ecosystem (Sect. 21.1), provides a classification of LBS (Sect. 21.2), as well as example applications and services (Sect. 21.3). Finally, a brief overview about relevant standards in this context (Sect. 21.4), most notably the OGC OpenGIS Location Service (OpenLS) Implementation Specification is presented. |
