ROLLING resistance and tractive performance of a skidder equipped with dual tires operating on soft soil in the Coastal Plain region of North Carolina were determined for six tire inflation pressure combinations (TIPC). The rolling resistance increased with the increase in dynamic load for all pressures. The mean line pull, P, increased linearly with the tree load, WL (P = 0.62 WL). The tractive pull/dynamic load ratio values were low and when plotted against the slip appeared to be independent of the tire inflation pressure indicating that the tires performed like rigid wheels on soft, deformable surfaces. |
