Planar cell polarity is a fundamental process during embryogenesis comprising of uniform polarization of cells and coordinated cell migration events. These events are critical in shaping the three-dimensional body plan of a living organism. Defects in these events are associated in various developmental anomalies. The molecular mechanism by which these cells polarize for directional migration remains elusive. In this chapter, we discuss our understanding regarding the molecular control and functional mechanisms of the global clue in establishing planar cell polarity during embryonic development. |
