The article considers the student success frameworks in community colleges in the United States of America. Success as a broad category can have several meanings, but it is always associated with a positive result. The student success determines the effectiveness of community colleges, so finding ways to improve the educational process is an actual problem of higher education in the United States. Since the beginning of the XXI century, American educators have been developing the student success frameworks. The Lumina Foundation initiative aims to use research data on students' problems in achieving success and implementing a “culture of evidence” in the work of colleges. Based on the obtained data, educators develop intervention strategies to improve student performance, identify barriers to academic progress, and disseminate positive experiences in developing effective programs. The Ellucian initiative is another interesting example of the implementation of reforms in the work of community colleges. The strategy proposed by the specialists contains six steps and begins with creating a common vision of student success, focusing on the actions of successful students and defining a strategy for early intervention in the problem of failure. From the smallest steps of assessing and improving the situation and establishing links with all structures, it is possible to overcome the problem of existing obstacles to student success, using the data obtained in the most rational way. The article contains an overview of scientific works that are the result of long-term research and can be a useful experience for Ukrainian higher education institutions. |
