Popis: | Most determinations for water are easily made by a Karl Fischer titration but interferences are known including oxidizing agents, unsaturated compounds, and thio compounds. Gas chromatography (GC) can be both rapid and sensitive but some components of a sample can elute slowly or decompose on-column and interfere. This contribution describes the determination of water by liquid chromatography with a conductivity detector. The inclusion of an acid in the eluent significantly improved sensitivity of detection, which was limited at about 2.5 ppm. At the 20% water level, precision of determination was 0.22%. Examples are shown for the determination of water in samples that interfered with GC and/or Karl Fischer methods. |
