Popis: The design of movable hydraulic closures must also take other actions and loads into account than discussed in the preceding chapter. This includes diverse contact phenomena, such as friction and wear, fatigue loads due to hydraulic load variations, and the action of gate drives, seismic loads, possible vibrations, downpull and uplift forces, power, and other failures. These loads and the ways to control them are globally discussed in this chapter. Also the phenomena of earthquake, soil instabilities, corrosion, and cavitation are discussed. In addition, attention is drawn to the risk of fire in the vicinity of a gate, possibility of other extraordinary conditions, risk of vandalism, and intended damage. These risks are of very different nature and often require other approach to designing than in terms of strength and stiffness. Nevertheless, some global guidance on both reducing and handling of such risks has been provided.
