Infrared Neural Stimulation (INS) will effectively reduce both acute and chronic post-traumatic seizures, along with associated neuroinflammation. To investigate this hypothesis, our research will focus on utilizing a focal cranial airblast mouse model of post-traumatic epilepsy, which closely mimics common military TBIs resulting from IED detonations. The objectives of this study include assessing the impact of INS on acute post-traumatic seizures and quantifying the long-term effects of INS therapy on interictal neuronal hyperexcitability, chronic seizures, and inflammatory profiles. Successful implementation of INS therapy as a non-surgical treatment option would enhance safety, minimize recovery time, and improve patient comfort while reducing the need for surgical interventions and potential complications. |
