Popis: The spatial distribution patterns of the immature stages of Platyptilia carduidactyla (Riley) were studied. Sampling efficiencies for plume moth eggs, larvae and pupae are presented. During vegetative stage of the plant, moth eggs were found mainly on the lamina of the lower leaf-surface and on leaves within the 30°–60° area of the plant. Significantly more larvae were found at the young interfolding central leaves. At floral-heads producing stage, most eggs were on leaves immediately below the heads. Flower heads contained 96% of all larvae found. Pupation occurred on old senescing leaves (62%) and in the leaf litter (38%). Egg and larval distribution patterns fit the negative binomial model. Sampling efficiency and optimum sample sizes were determined.
