Popis: | In this work, Al/B4C metal matrix composites were extruded to fabricate seamless square tubes. Al/B4C composites were fabricated by powder metallurgy process. A special die set was used in extrusion process to make tubes at 550 °C with a ram speed of 3 mm/s. Microstructure changes were studied using an optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and image analyzer. Tensile and hardness tests were performed for all produced samples. The hardness and tensile strength of the composites reinforced by the B4C particles are 150 and 280 MPa, respectively, which are almost twice as high as that of the matrix. It was found that extrusion process provided uniform dispersion of B4C particles due to refining and redistribution of them. The results showed that the flow behavior of Al/B4C is different from that of unreinforced matrix. The redistribution and migration of B4C particles during extrusion were significantly taken place and affected the mechanical properties of tubes. |
