Popis: | In Europe different systems for the provision of mental health care exist for the mentally ill offenders, both inside and outside the prison system. Forensic psychiatric care, besides in prisons, can be provided by services belonging to forensic facilities or to general psychiatric facilities, which will be discussed. Leading principles for the provision of forensic psychiatric care, relevant to funding issues, will be dealt with. The same differences exist in the funding of these facilities. Funding is broadly speaking provided by both the Ministry of Justice or by the Ministry of Health. Some forms of mixed funding also exist. The same applies to the responsibility for supervision and regulation, which are means for quality control. In this chapter different forms of organization of funding of forensic mental health care across European countries will be described. Furthermore the advantages and disadvantages of different funding types and their consequences will be discussed as well as ethical issues and professional views. In conclusion some recommendations will be made. |
