17–4 PH stainless steel is of martensite structure well known for its combination of corrosion resistance in multiple environments while retaining high strength properties, including hardness. There exists a lack of study in optimization of machining parameters to control its cycle time and tool wear of the WC cutting tool used in machining difficult-to-cut material for improved mass production capabilities. The correlation analysis allowed it to be determined that the speed and cutting force have a negative interconnection whereas the feed and depth of cut have a positive interconnection with the cutting force for both cryogenic treated and conventional WC tool in varying degrees. Thus, setting the stage for predictive maintenance algorithms and possible improvement in throughput time. |
