In both pediatrics and child and adolescent psychiatry it is not uncommon to evaluate children and adolescents with academic, school, and behavioral problems. One of the most common reasons for such difficulties is a learning disability. Such students often develop secondary emotional, social, and family problems. It is, therefore, critical that the clinician evaluate the total child or adolescent, making an effort to clarify all biologic as well as psychological, social, and family difficulties when formulating a diagnosis and developing a treatment plan. |
