Popis: | The magnitude and sign of the third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility ( χ 3 ) of polydibutylstannane, a polymer with a homonuclear tin (Sn) backbone, were determined using degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) and single-beam Z-scan measurements at 532 nm. These experiments were conducted at various molar concentrations in chloroform solutions from 1.0 to 5.0 × 10 −2 M. The χ 3 value for polydibutylstannane was found to be about two orders of magnitude larger than that of polysilane. An extrapolation of χ 3 for the polydibutylstannane solid gives about 10 −10 esu. This value is among the largest measured in materials transparent in the visible region. |
