Rapid growth in computing and communications, novel computing concepts and applications require permanent advances and increasing flexibility in data networks and data centers. Here, we discuss architecture and physical implementation of an adaptive interconnect using a Clos-based spine-leaf architecture. At the center of the discussion is the optimization of the interconnection network by using redundancy. The physical implementation is based on integrated micro-optics combined with micro-mechanical device technology. In a top-down approach, we consider the various aspects of the interconnect at the systems and at the physical level. |
