Popis: Dating violence, including psychological, physical, and sexual aggression, is a pervasive problem among adolescents. There has been some research to indicate that substance use is related to both dating violence perpetration and victimization. This chapter reviews the literature on alcohol use, marijuana use, and use of other drugs and their relation to dating violence perpetration and victimization among adolescents. The literature demonstrates a consistent link between alcohol use and dating violence perpetration and victimization, though the relationships between marijuana and use of other drugs and dating violence is less clear. Studies in this field are limited by methodological flaws including a primary focus on physical violence and limited data on temporal associations between substances and dating violence. Further research should be conducted to better understand potential causal relationships between substance use and dating violence, which will inform dating violence prevention and intervention programs.
