In 8-week-old, hydroponically grown Leucaena leucephala root uptake and accumulation of N and P were increased by external supply of these elements in the absence of Al. N and P relative transport from root to shoot were inversely related to shoot N and P concentration. An external Al concentration of 1 mM severely hampered root growth, and reduced transport of P from root to shoot, but enhanced root P concentration, possibly a result of precipitation of Al-P complex on root cell surfaces. |
